Our volunteers have been hard at work advocating for LOSD students.
Progress is Underway
A group of 65 volunteers have begun laying the groundwork for our advocacy. The primary goal for this parent-led effort is to influence LOSD practices starting in the 2026-27 school year.
Immediate changes announced at the April 29 School Board meeting:
Devices at Home: Elementary students will no longer bring school-issued devices home.
App Transparency: The district is working to publish a formal list of all approved classroom apps.
Game Review: Leadership is considering replacing "i-Ready" reward games with short guided meditations to reduce non-essential screen time.
The Tech Audit: A district-wide audit is currently tracking exactly how devices are used in class to ensure they align with learning goals.
Safety Controls: Officials are reviewing "whitelist" options (restricting access to only pre-approved sites) and optimizing GoGuardian settings.
Expert Research: Leaders are studying insights from Jared Cooney Horvath and policy shifts in Los Angeles Unified School District on new screen time limits.
Coming up…
Mark your calendars: Dr. Schiele will present a technology audit to the school board on Tuesday, May 26 at 6pm. This is a significant moment for our community — we encourage every family to attend in person or tune in online. Details on the meeting location or how to watch remotely are available at losdschools.org.
